VDSL broadband speed report September 2017
Monday, 11 September 2017

Internet providers across New Zealand are well known for advertising different speeds for their products - with some advertising the theoretical top speeds and others showing a more average performance view.  There is no legislation sying how they have to do it so that is where the Truenet speed reports help you make a decision.  Are VDSL broadband providers in NZ actually delivering speeds that are similar to what they advertise?  Let’s try to figure it out.

According to the latest Truenet.nz report, the speed differences for NZ websites continue to show a wide spread.  All ISPs are able to deliver similar speeds for technology, but the difference is how fast each service downloads a range of popular websites in NZ and overseas varies.

One standout example on the copper network is Voyager VDSL.  The Voyager VDSL service in Augustwas actually slower for NZ surfing speeds than some ADSL speeds.  Similarly with International surfing speeds, but this time Slingshot VDSL is slower than some ADSL speeds.

Also, let’s not forget about prices. Whilst speed is of course very important it is not essential to everyone so you can make your decisoon combined with the cost for that service.  If your service costs you the Earth why would you take the slower speeds?  The table below simply shows you speed results and prices for major NZ Internet providers that are available on Truenet report.
